Ragnar Relay

Oh and if you don't already know, I've been getting up [ok truthfully Joseph has been getting me up] to run at 5 or 6am every morning for the past 4 months in preparation for the Ragnar Relay. It's this Fri&Sat 27-28th. And I'm excited. You can look at the website to see the course map (I'm "runner one" on my team)
It should be fun.
I love to run.
ok, I'm done :)

Happy Lent

I think I'm gonna give up dating.

Gma Gavin's 90th Birthday Party

I don't really feel like puting captions on all the pics. You were there. You know what was going on. And if you weren't, you probably don't know half these people anyway so it doesn't matter :P

Basically, Grandma turned 90 and we had an impromptu dance party in her driveway that warranted a drive-by from the cops to see what all the commotion was about :)

(one of 3 photos with Brenna making a different creeper face in the background of each one)

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Secret Admirer?

I came home from work the other day to a trail of hearts which lead from the front door... my bedroom...
...and onto my bed...

So who did it?
a) a secret admirer
b) the guy I'm dating
my really really REALLY bored roommate Tacia :)

Me: So... were you home alone all afternoon?
Tacia: Yeah... why do you ask?

She even wrote the number to the Rejection Hotline on one of the hearts saying "Call Me!" (FYI: it's 602-230-4210--call, it's pretty funny)

Never a dull moment :)

Sidewalk wisdom

Found this scrawled on a sidewalk on my way home from work:

"Boredom is a con! Fun is free!"
...the motto of my childhood :)

Fur shurr

Remember this?
You probably thought that after the Gavin family white elephant gift exchange you'd never see it again right? (Obviously I'm talking about the coat here, not Rocky) Well, that's what I had in mind when I gave it away...

Anyway, we've had some unexpected cold weather recently, which may be the reason why this little number made a trip to the grocery store:

The white elephant gift's evil tiger-printed twin! Dun dun dun!

Did you know...

...that you can make plasma in your microwave?? Yeah well, thanks to Joseph, I do now... And you can too!
Here's what you need:

a microwave

Any kind will do really... preferably a cheap one that comes with the apartment--not an expensive one you bought yourself... just in case things go horribly wrong, you won't be stuck with a radioactive microwave after you move out of the apartment.

Really, I only included this picture because I figured out a new setting on my camera where I can manually focus on stuff--it's cool! Anyways... you need a match like this one:

stuck in some play-dough (of any color) to help keep it upright.

a mason jar

(This picture was taken after multiple repeated trials of this experiment... as you can see the label on the jar is getting pretty warped at this point)

Yes... that is how it sounds in real life!!!

Somehow, by putting a lit match in the microwave, it super-heats the flame and creates a fiery ball of plasma which rises above the burning match. The mason jar is necessary, I assume, to keep the plasma contained & to prevent it from melting the roof off your microwave. I'm a little too scared to try this without the jar. Would it even work? I also haven't had the guts to leave it glowing longer than 5 seconds or so--it's about at that time when the buzzing starts to get MUCH louder and it makes you wonder just what is going on indside there...?? Why don't you try it and let me know how it goes? You can do a blog post about it :)

My poor frightened roommate, Tacia, was trying to make chocolate milk in the kitchen at the time & ran to the living room clutching her grocieries to protect them from the demon microwave

Things that just make my day...

Like when I'm walking to school and I see this:

It's across the street from a middle school... go figure :)

I have not posted anything for the ENTIRE month of January... which is TOTALLY selfish of me because I've had such an amazing month! I guess that's why I haven't put anything up... I have been busy doing cool things. I'll fix that. The main item I would like to address today:

for giving me the BEST birthday I've ever had!!! I cannot express how much it meant to me to be able to spend my birthday with my family! I had complained to Brenna that no one ever comes to visit me in Tucson and that all I wanted for my birthday was to maybe have my sisters come visit me.

Brenna told me weeks in advance that she & Cody wanted to take me out to lunch on my bday so don't make any plans. I didn't think anything of it because that's what they did last year. On her way down, Brenna called to ask for directions & that was the first time I began to get suspicious--she wasn't giving me straight answers to my questions (When I asked "Are you driving or is Cody?" her response was "yes". hmm.....)

Surprisingly, I truly had NO idea all the fun Brenna had planned!!! (Which is ironic because only 2 days earlier I was talking to Allison & saying how I am always soooo suspicious and that it's almost impossible for anyone to surprise me blah blah blah)

When I went to greet Brenna I was SOOOO happy to also see Monica, Chanda, Brian, & Treyton in the parking lot! That alone warranted a very happy birthday. But then Dad & Mom also showed up with Colton, and Carla soon came with all the kiddos!! I was so happy, I seriously almost started crying ...but I spent like an hour doing my eye makeup that morning so I restrained my tears. :)

Brenna stayed up ALL night baking & decorating this AMAZING cake!

Spending time with my family remains the best part about my birthday BUT... I found out Brenna recruited Allison & together they went through all my friends on Facebook sent out a secret invite to come celebrate my birthday with me! It was the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!

So, again, THANK YOU SO MUCH BRENNA!!!!!!! I love you!!
I really did feel like a princess ;)

And thank you to everyone who made the most boring/ugly drive in all of Arizona to come celebrate my birthday with me--it meant SO much to me :)

If you have facebook, you can check out all the pics on my profile. If not, go here.
